Victorian Conservatory Glasshouse

Business: Hull City Council

Location: Pearson Park, Hull, HU5 2GT

Client: William Birch & Sons (contractor)

Project overview:

  • Build replica of 1930s conservatory
  • Retain and incorporate original features
  • Install 6.4m high roof lantern

The benefits for our client:

Originally constructed in the late 19th century and rebuilt again in 1930, the Victorian conservatory had fallen into a state of disrepair after previously being used to house reptiles.

Now it now provides a useable space that visitors can enjoy all year round – thanks to the skills of our glasshouse specialists

The solution:

Creating a new focal point for a historic Hull park took months of planning and careful consideration.

But all the effort was worthwhile once the stunning 185sqm glasshouse was unveiled with its visually-striking 6.4metre-high lantern roof.

Designed to replicate the building it’s replaced; the modern build retains its links to the past through the use of original cast iron supports as a decorative feature.
